My philosophy of learning is that it has to be fun and memorable if you want anything to stick. This means games, activities, interaction and maybe field trips too. When a student is interacting and having fun, they will remember what they are learning about. My goal as a teacher is to make sure I give each and every student a peice of information that they will take with them and always remember. To me that is not just a goal, but also a responsibility too. A teacher's responsibility is to teach and give students knowledge that they will take with them in life. Other responsibilities of a teacher include, providing a safe and relaxed environment, respecting each student and having the same respect from them and giving the students positive and good reinforment.
Schools today seem to be more about getting good SAT and big test reults. They are more strict and uptight than when I was a young student. I remember being able to watch disney movies for a classroom treat or having a small halloween party in the classroom if our report grades were good. Today in most public schools, celebrating Halloween is forbidden and teachers are not aloud to play any movies unless they are educational and have been approved. This is really sad to me because it seems like the schools are taking the fun out of coming to school. This will cause unhappy students and eventually poor grades. I think schools need to relax a little bit and give the teachers a little more freedom. This way students can have fun and enjoy coming to school. Studies have proven that the happier a student is and the more interaction they have, the better their grades will be.
When it comes to students and technology, I think it is a great combination. Students can learn by using technology in many different ways. An example would be playing educational games in the classroom. As I mentioned earlier, student preform and learn better when they are having fun and enjoying themselves. And almost all kids love to play video games. By playing video games in the classroom they can do something they love and learn at the same time without even knowing it. When it comes to teachers and technology, I think they should definently use it in the classroom. They should know how to properly use different types and show the students how to use them too. Teachers should use technology a lot, but make sure that is not the only thing they are doing everyday.
